I hate how the success of a single mixtape can make an artist loose their grind.
Take A$VP Rocky for example.

I love A$AP Rocky’s music. I have absolutely no shame in saying that I do. But it kills me that, with the exception of Deep Purple, his camp feels like LiveLoveA$AP was enough - and as far as buzz, it was. But for someone who likes his actual MUSIC and not his perceived “pretty motha-fucka movement”, I feel like he should have been put out his follow-up mixtape. Granted, I know he’s busy. I know he’s kinda sorta touring right now, getting signed to RCA, and shooting videos and what not, but again, I know artists who can’t sleep without knowing that they’re constantly moving forward in their craft and with their projects. Case in point; Waka Flocka Flame. His music might be trash, but he constantly has mixtapes coming out. Constantly. Either that or he’s featured somewhere one somebody’s mixtape. My nigga A$AP Rocky had one album/mixtape and he’s been virtually silent for like 5 months with the exception of a handful of sub-par singles. Yet his head is humongous.
Hunger produces excellence. As does the desire to prove yourself. Something in me say A$AP Rocky is low on both of those these days.
Bet your refund check his next mixtape/album is wack.
